The theme for this year's World Hand Hygiene Day (WHHD) 2022 is "Unite for safety: clean your hands". Hand hygiene is a key infection prevention control (IPC) measure in reducing the transmission of healthcare associated infections (HCAI). During the COVID-19 pandemic people outside of healthcare have learned more about IPC and hand hygiene and we frequently see hand hygiene dispensers in shops, public premises and transport.
Hand hygiene saves lives and as IPC practitioners we have a responsibility to educate people and lead by example in changing and improving behaviours towards hand hygiene.
There are many tools available from sites such as (WHO) https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-hand-hygiene-day/2022 and (HSE) https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/media/pressrel/hse-marks-who-hand-hygiene-day.html# to help promote hand hygiene.
Go forth and educate about hand hygiene in delivering safe patient care.
