Hello all
Had an awful day yesterday regarding staff wanting to wear PPE in particular masks when caring for ALL patients, whether or not suspected or confirmed COVID-19 AND when in contact with other staff when social distancing cannot be maintained. Is everyone adhering to HSE guidelines or have you escalated to this practice?

Hi Fiona,
The 5 Ltr containers are from Semad, in Baldoyle D13 01 8464378 but I’m not sure if they were supplied to us through HSE Tullamore into our supplier – Critical Healthcare also in Tullamore or if Critical bought them directly from Semad. In general we have a small steady supply of tottle sized hand gel so the 5Ltr is more a back up…[Read more]

Hi Ciarán. Thanks for all the info. We’re having the same issue with alcohol hand gel. Are you sourcing your 5 litre AHR from Ecolab or do you have another supplier. Smaller volumes are literally walking out of the hospital! Thanks a lot.

Hello all
What are you doing when transferring a patient with COVID-19 to another department within your hospital?
Is this reasonable?
- If walking, patient wears mask, do hand hygiene (once compliant) & staff does not wear PPE
- If wheelchair as above
- If bed bound, clean & disinfect bed, clean bed linen, mask on patient and staff no PPE
- If…

The ziplock bag is a good idea Ciaran. It is indeed unusual times and reusing items or top-up of containers is generally not recommended but everyone is doing their best.
Take care.

Hi Lenora,
The things that we wouldn’t normally countenance! We have instructed staff to have a personal issue set of Goggles which they clean themselves using Clinell Universal wipes allowing 60 seconds contact time as we have no real equivalent or access to CSSD. They are directed to store in provided ziplock bags with their name / staff ID…[Read more]

Hello Linda
I agree with Ciaran’s advice. Once PPE is worn correctly at the swabbing station and there has been no breach then there is no waiting period before going back to the clinical setting. Self-monitoring for symptoms is necessary for all HCW’s.
Kind regards

Hello all
We have been using the standard surgical mask with visor for non-aerosol generating procedures for patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 but our stock is running low. We are reviewing reusable goggles & was wondering how are people managing these?
Do you dedicate one per HCW for each day & reuse or one per HCW?
Where do you…[Read more]

Hi Linda,
The national ambulance service set up the first of the swabbing centres and also the home swabbing which we’ve been doing for several weeks now. We worked with AMRIC when setting up and we adhere by agreement with the casual and close contact algorithm’s before they were published so unless in the course of your swabbing you become a c…[Read more]

Hi all,
Hope everyone is safe and well.
A quick query, how many days do staff working in swabbing centres in the community have to wait before they can safely return to different clinical duties?
Management thought the staff must have left the swabbing centre for 7 days before returning to other clinical duties?
I am not personally working in…[Read more]
