Thank you Alison and Fiona for your replies. Yes, it is a challenge. We do try to ascertain if the patient has been in another hospital prior to the endoscopy procedure and if yes, then schedule last on list. Hi Fiona,The HSE cleaning manual for acute hospitals do not appear to give specific instruction on the cleaning of hospital theatres. My initial response would be no. Many thanks for your reply.The primary filters are inspected and changed more frequently….months as opposed to years as with the HEPA filters.

I think this is an area that will be nearly impossible to monitor in the acute sector .
Here in STMH all patients are contacted by phone pre endoscopy so the question can be asked however this will not be the case elsewhere. I know that in the event that we have any known infective case the room will be decontaminated . I think we must…[Read more]

Hi All,

I have been asked on behalf of the CHO5 IP&C advisory committee to ascertain the number of WTE IPCN’s in each CHO and their grades. I know there is a vast difference in the number of IPCN’s for the community.

My gut says to air sample as an extra marker of the quality of the ventilation system but I expect our microbiologist will also recommend that air sampling is not required.

I understand the guidance for patients at risk for CRE in relation to screening and isolation is for inpatients but considering the endoscopy unit is a clinical setting where colonoscopes are performed, can you please tell if you take special precautions if the patient has been in another hospital overnight in the last 12 months…[Read more]

We are the same as Cathy and Maureen. In Beacon we previously used the CX powder but changed practice several years ago.

Hi Everyone,
Is it a requirement to air sample theatres following HEPA filter change? The guidance documents I`ve looked at ( HTMs & ” commissioning & monitoring theatres) don’t advise air sampling following “routine filter” change so is change of HEPA filters considered routine or not considering they are only changed every 5 years or so?

We don’t use CX powder either….chlorhexidine/ skinisan ( pharmacy choice) antiseptic washes & nasal mupiricin.
