Thanks for all the information about the UV system. I like process, speed and lack of consumables. I understand that the Stella machine is/was available in Ireland it may be something else to look at.
Have you placed your system in a designated area/ room ?
I presume you immerse / wipe first then use the UVC ?
Sorry for all the questions,…[Read more] -

Hi Alison.
We have purchased the UV light HLD system for the decontamination of TV/TR probes and for the central line probe. We can disconnect the central line probe from the machine and this is brought to the X ray department for decontamination at present. I have put in a funding request for additional machines to allow theatre/ICU to have…[Read more]

Hi Alison
For our TOE we use the GUS system with the chemical OPA Cidex but for vaginal and rectal probes we use sheath and wipes. I am interested also to know what other hospitals are doing.

Hi Kay,
We have been using Manepa bedpan washers for a number of years and havent had any major issues. Usually when they cause problems it is due to user misuse rather than the machine. Are the bedpan washers fitted with detergent & descaler? This may be a reason for not cleaning the bedpans properly?best wishes

Hi Fiona,The HSE cleaning manual for acute hospitals do not appear to give specific instruction on the cleaning of hospital theatres. My initial response would be no. Operating theatres have 15 to 30 air changes per hour and a controlled air flow system – I would have thought surface washing followed by disinfecting with micro-fibre cloths and…[Read more]

Thanks Cathy & Anne for your replies,
My gut says to air sample as an extra marker of the quality of the ventilation system but I expect our microbiologist will also recommend that air sampling is not required.
many thanks

Hi Everyone,
Is it a requirement to air sample theatres following HEPA filter change? The guidance documents I`ve looked at ( HTMs & ” commissioning & monitoring theatres) don’t advise air sampling following “routine filter” change so is change of HEPA filters considered routine or not considering they are only changed every 5 years or so? -

Hi Fiona,
We don’t use CX powder either….chlorhexidine/ skinisan ( pharmacy choice) antiseptic washes & nasal mupiricin.
